How to use the BU Database application

  1. Run the BU Database client program.

    To run the client program, select Start > Programs > BU > BU Database.

    The log-in box appears.

  2. Enter your user name and password.

    Your user name and password were provided in the E-mail you received when you requested an account.

  3. Click OK to continue.

    The main BU Commitments window appears. You can now begin adding records to the BU Database.

  4. Open either the Products or Projects page.

    To display the Products page, select Commitments > Products.

    To display the Projects page, select Commitments > Projects.

    Both pages may be open at once.

  5. Click the "Add New Record" button.

    This button is located on the toolbar at the top of the page.

    The Product/Project Information panel appears. These panels are similar to each other, and for this section, they shall be discussed interchangably.

  6. Specify the information for the new record.

    The specifics of each field and parameter are discussed in detail in the sections Product Information on page 25 (for Product records) and Project Information on page 33 (for Project records).

    Some hints:

    • The ID number is generated automatically
    • New Product records are generally not archived
    • Enter the actual name of the product in the Product field
    • Most other fields have pre-determined lists of options from which you can choose
  7. Click the "Save Current Record" button.

    This button is located on the toolbar at the top of the page.

  8. Click the Reports tab.

    The reports page appears.

  9. Select a Print To option.

    The options include:

    Window
    The Window option displays the report to a separate window. it is formatted just as it would if it were printed on paper.
    Printer
    The Printer option prints out the entire database (either Products or Projects, depending on which page you have open). The printed report includes a title page.
  10. Click Print.

    Your report is displayed/printed. If you chose to display the database in a window, you also have a variety of Export options.
